An MOT with us is £49.95, and every one includes a free pre-MOT check in our own workshop. We look over the things cars most often fail on, like bulbs, wipers and tyres, and sort them before the test rather than after. The test itself is done at a DVSA-approved testing station and we organise all of it. You deal with us from drop-off to collection.

How it works

  • Book in and drop the car with us. If you live within 10 minutes, ask about free collection and drop-off.
  • We run the free pre-MOT check. If anything looks like a fail, we show you and give you a price before we touch it.
  • The MOT is done at a DVSA-approved testing station. We sort the arrangements.
  • If it passes, you collect your certificate the same day. If it fails, we quote for the repair and your retest is free within 7 days.

Why the free check matters

Around three in ten cars fail their MOT first time, usually on small things. A failed test means a repair, a retest and another trip. The pre-MOT check is there to make sure your car goes in ready to pass. A lot of garages charge for this as a separate inspection. With us it comes included.

If your car needs work

You get a written quote before any work starts, repairs are done here in our RAC Approved workshop, and the retest within 7 days costs nothing. We don’t invent failures. Our reviews are at the bottom of this page if you want to check up on us.

Book early, lose nothing

You can have your MOT done up to a month (minus a day) before it expires and keep the same renewal date, so there’s no harm in booking ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Do you do the MOT yourselves?

The test is done at a DVSA-approved testing station. We arrange it as part of your booking, and the free pre-MOT check and any repairs are done by our own technicians in our RAC Approved workshop. You only ever deal with us.

What does the free pre-MOT check cover?

The common failure points. Lights and bulbs, tyres and tread, wipers and washers, the horn, anything obvious on the brakes and suspension, and warning lights. The idea is the car goes to the test ready to pass.

What happens if it fails?

We show you what failed and quote the repair in writing. The retest is free within 7 days, and nothing gets repaired without your say so.

What do I need to bring?

Just the car. We can look everything else up from the registration.

Can I drive my car if the MOT has run out?

Only to a pre-booked MOT appointment or to a garage for repairs. Anything else risks a fine and your insurance. If yours has run out, book in first and then drive straight here.

Can I get an MOT early without losing time?

Yes. Up to a month (minus a day) before it expires, the new certificate keeps your old renewal date. Earlier than that and the date resets.

Do you MOT vans?

Cars and smaller vans, yes. We can’t take Class 7 (the largest vans) or pickup trucks.

Excellent service, I had been having problems with my car radio screen for nearly a year, I took it to them and they found the problem straight away and fixed it for me and claimed it on my warranty and I didn’t have to do anything. Also had a service and 2 tyres.They were so helpful, I was very pleased. It feels like I’ve got a new car!

I recently used GT Automotive for a repair through a warranty claim. Matt was very helpful and explained the process. Unfortunately there were some delays for the repair to be done through no fault of the garage but through the warranty company. Matt kept me updated and fought my case for the claim, eventually got the repairs approved and got my car fixed as quick as they could. I've had a hard time in the past finding a garage I can trust, but these are very genuine and I will be using them for all my car needs going forward, and already have my next Service and MOT booked in.
